It’s in the process! Part II

Hello friends, I hope your week is coming along well. I was reflecting on my recent post and decided to do a part II. Mainly because of this Bible character who couldn’t stop racing through my mind.

He was such a dreamer! Remember, I was talking about dreams and growth in my recent post on It’s in the process!

His brothers hated him because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn’t say a kind word to him. And this hatred was exacerbated by his dreams. But that was definitely expected, I mean, his dreams depicted him as king and his brothers bowing to him. Not many people would love hearing about that. And actually, not even his father could make sense out of those dreams.

And this just shows me that sometimes when God puts dreams in our hearts, we had better not expect others to carry the weight of the dream, understand what it means or even buy into our visions.

I know you’re smart and you’ve already figured that we’re talking about Joseph. Fast forward, at a certain point when Joseph’s brothers went to pasture their father’s flocks, Jacob sent Jospeh to check on them and bring him a report. And this is where the plot twist to Joseph’s dreams began!! If I had dreamt of people bowing before me, I honestly wouldn’t be ready for any thing contrary to the narrative. But things don’t always go they way we want them to, do they?

Things won’t always go the way you expected them to. But that’s how you grow! And without growth, life loses meaning!

Ishmaelite traders. When joseph arrived where his brothers were, they ripped off his beautiful robe, threw him into an empty cistern and later sold him off to some Ishmaelite traders for 20 pieces of silver and the traders headed to Egypt. I’m wondering what must have been going through Joseph’s mind at this point. Was he tormented by the fact that the father must have been waiting for him? Okay, where would these traders sell him to? Would it be close to home? I honestly don’t know what kind of strength he had to endure.

Potiphar. When the traders got to Egypt, they sold him to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. Potiphar was captain of the palace guard. So we can see Joseph was just exchanging hands to whomever, as though he had no value. Ever felt like you had no value? Walk with God nevertheless.

The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did and Potiphar noticed that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. And here comes promotion! He made him his personal attendant, giving him complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. But no sooner had things looked like they were shaping up for Joseph than boom! Another plot twist!

Prison. Joseph found himself in Prison on rape charges. Could life get any worse? Taken to a foreign land as a slave, as a young man and then you end up imprisoned for crimes you never committed? Sometimes honestly, it’s possible to think God has left you.

But Joseph remained faithful in every stage, even in prison. To the point that the prison warden put him in charge of all other prisoners because once again, the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden. The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed. Joseph later interpreted Pharaoh’s chief cup bearer’s dream and asked him to remember him when he stepped out of prison.

The final plot twist – The Palace. Two full years later! This is when the chief cup bearer remembers about Joseph when Pharaoh struggles to find an interpreter to his dreams. Joseph is brought in, and he does his thing! Well he interpreted the dream and there are then, pharaoh put him in charge over all of egypt. I love how he marvels…

Gen 41:39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are.

Are you trying to make sense out of the dreams you have for your life. Trust God to give you the revelation you need. Joseph had said to the chief cup-bearer that interpreting dreams is God’s business. And that hit different for me. Also, have you been going through hell lately? God at His appointed time can and will turn things around.

1st Pet 5:10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

Look at the drastic turn around for Joseph! The young boy whom the father so loved but now thinks is dead. The young boy whom the brothers so hated that they conspired to kill him at some point. The young boy who was enslaved because his brothers hated him. And then he was imprisoned in a foreign land. But God! He was the young boy that the Lord chose, loved and walked with every step of the way. Look at how his story changed…..pharaoh ordered…

⁴⁰You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.” ⁴¹ Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.” ⁴²Then Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in fine linen clothing and hung a gold chain around his neck. ⁴³ Then he had Joseph ride in the chariot reserved for his second-in-command. And wherever Joseph went, the command was shouted, “Kneel down!” So Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all Egypt. ⁴⁴ And Pharaoh said to him, “I am Pharaoh, but no one will lift a hand or foot in the entire land of Egypt without your approval.”

God always has a plan. If there’s a character that inspires me in the Bible, it’s Joseph. I’m certain no matter where you are, the process life has dealt you is nothing like Joseph’s. Remain faithful even when all odds are against you! Then remember that God always has a plan. Joseph had to go through everything he went through because God was positioning him to preserve the whole tribe of Israel! And when he revealed himself to his brothers eventually, this is what he had to say….

Genesis 45:5 But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.

Exactly what Joseph did! Don’t carry along that bitterness. Trust in God, give it all to Him.

You want to live free? Stop the blame game. Joseph had every reason to live a terrible life full of misery and pain, blaming his brothers. But He didn’t harbour bitterness. He actually named one of His sons Manasseh meaning, “God has made me forget all my troubles and everyone in my father’s family.” What’s stressing you out? No matter how big, give it to God and get on with life.

I also love that he didn’t laze around like life had lost meaning because he was in slavery. He faithfully worked in every season and that is why he rose in ranks. At every moment in life, you have a choice to make on whether you’ll sit and complain or you’ll take charge of your life. Please, take charge! Never give up on yourself!

When it looks like nothing is happening, something is always happening. Joseph had to be sold to Egypt because that is where the Israelites lives would be preserved. He had to work under Potiphar and also later under the prison warden on a leadership capacity because a bigger role was awaiting him as ruler over the whole land of Egypt. Pay attention to the levels of your life. Something is always happening even when it looks like nothing is!

Never forget the dreams you birthed when you were younger. At the right time, God will make it happen. He has a plan! Joseph was made in charge over the entire land of Egypt. A very prominent rank! The second highest next to Pharaoh. Only God could do that! He had dreamt and saw the sun, mon and 11 stars bowing before him, that he was king reigning over his brothers, and yes it came to pass! Decades later.

When God is with you, you will flourish wherever. God’s presence in your life comes with success, favour with men and promotion. The Lord was with Jospeh: in Potiphar’s house and gave him success in everything he did, even blessing Potiphar for his sake & in prison that he found favor with the prison warden and everything he did there succeeded.

Theres so much to learn from the process that Joseph’s life was anchored on. I understand now more than ever before that God is always strategic! He allows everything to happen to us with a greater purpose in mind! In a little while, it will all make sense. Growth is in the process! Dream big! And walk with God throughout the process! Throughout!
