Teaming up

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

I dreaded team work back in campus. So much! My head would ache as I jotted down the number of teams I had to work with for the semester assignments and projects.

Honestly, working alone, I would achieve so much more in such a short while. And yes, I was right about that, at least for a second. I also didn’t want to bear the thought of having to tone down on my series time, friends hangouts and all, just to attend some group discussions.

But then, I just did what needed to be done. Joined groups, because part of the student evaluation entailed group work. A man’s gotta do what he gotta do after all.

I also wondered why companies stressed on team work as a core competency when recruiting staff. And because I knew that ignorance is bliss, as I prepared for interviews, I had that perfect answer and examples of how I am an avid team player, always listening to and appreciating my team members’ opinion, always contributing, the problem solver in the team almost all the time! And if I’d go on, the recruiters would soon figure out I was lying, so I’d leave it at that.

Now, it was not until I got into more complex scenarios in life that I got to view this teams aspect in a whole different way. That is, positively. I mean, all of a sudden, the idea of working in/with a team sounded appealing.

Fact is, until things get too tough and a little too heavy, teaming up will always feel like a waste of time. Until you start dreaming big, having great things to do, solving big problems, then you will always have that mentality of ‘I can do it all by myself‘. And guess what, you will be very right! Only until….!

Until you start dreaming big, you will always have that mentality of ‘I can do it all by myself‘.

You can hardly be heavily impactful alone! This is because, you cannot do it all by yourself. And that applies only if you are aiming at making really great changes in your field. If you want to be heavily impactful on your dreams, goals, ambitions, purpose, you just might want to start figuring out what your dream team looks like.

There is this common phrase that if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. I couldn’t say it any better. Team work will always make the dream work. Team work will have you breaking records and realizing great achievements.

Identify your team players. There are people you may team up with and you stagnate for ages. Mainly because you are not operating at the same frequency. I hope you get to locate like minded people. And when people are seemingly below you in one aspect, I hope you don’t generalize based on that. There just could be something unique they’re bringing to the table. Something that you definitely need.

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

Solomon in His infinite wisdom says that two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. Each other: i.e. I help you succeed and you help me succeed. That is how I would love to examine the effectiveness of my teams in life.

What a joy it is when you can locate a person/people you can team up with in life’s different aspects! It is my hope that you will be able to identify the people you need to team up with when life situations call for the need to have strategic teams and partnerships. Teaming up in business, teaming up to carry out projects, teaming up for spiritual growth, teaming up for social enjoyment, and you just name it.

Now, if you’re anything like I used to be, thinking ‘ah, I can do it all by myself’ – then could it be, could it just be, that you are not dreaming big enough? That you are not challenging yourself enough to the point of requiring greater help from outside? Just think on it.

I hope you realise you were never meant to do it alone. And that, if you think you can do it all alone, then it’s probaly not as big and thus may not be as impactful for this generation. Here is today’s challenge: Dream big enough that you’ll only be able to achieve your dream with a dream team!

Teaming up with like minded people will always lead to success and greatness!

  1. You explained the power to unity and teamwork extensively and exhaustively, Doris πŸ‘

    I have always maintained that…

If you achieve it by yourself,
It’s called success – with a touch of stress.
    If you achieve with others,
It’s called greatness – with a touch of sweetness.

I believe strongly that there is a reason why God didn’t create man by saying “Let there be”, the creation of man started with “let us”.

I am not sure that God couldn’t have created man with words, but what was required for man to function as God’s replica requires God’s true nature ‘trinity’.

Every man/woman came into this world through ‘joint effort’ both spiritually and biologically.
Man was not created for isolation but for association.

  2. Well said, great pointers right there. This is one of my favorite lines in this post “If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.Β

It sum it all, no one was ever created to thrive alone. When different individuals come together and work or agree on something there’s more power and lots of great ideas interwoven together to produce amazing results in most cases.

There’s power in unity and upholding each other. Team work makes the dream work!

Great reminders, thanks for sharing, Doris. Have a wonderful weekend 😊.

  3. I still dread team workπŸ™ƒπŸ˜‚ It gets tiring sometimes. However, I have also realised the benefits of having a good team. Nothing like it!
Bible even says one will chase a 1000, and two will chase 10,000. Team work shouldn’t be trivialised.

    1. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…i know what you mean.
I only go for teams when I must. And I have realized, when I must, this is when I am usually stretching my capacity to learn from others and hence grow in the process.
Also, i like what you said, that the benefits are huge, when the team is great. Indeed, nothing like it πŸ’―

    1. Exactly. When you’re not like minded, then it’s better to work alone because it just might get too draining. I’m glad we resonate. Nice hearing from you 😊
